K9 NOSE WORK CLASSES
Journey Nose Work, LLC offers classes in Fort Collins and Arvada, Colorado.
We follow the philosophy of National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW) in teaching the Canine and Handler how to search. We start teaching the canine to hunt on food (primary) and introduce all search elements and complex problems before introducing a target odor. By doing this, the canine is able to build self confidence and independence in the search areas which will make the team more successful as the search problems get more complex.
INTRODUCTION TO K9 NOSE WORK
At this time, I am not offering another Introduction to K9 Nose Work. Please feel free to put yourself on the waitlist and I will reach out when I start my next class.
Over this first 6 week class, we will introduce your dog to the art of hunting, boxes and the “primary reward." Primary reward gives your dog the opportunity to find food without handler involvement and will build canine confidence.
Currently, I am not offering any new classes. Fill out the form with your information and I will put you on a waiting list.
INTRODUCTION TO VEHICLES AND EXTERIORS
6 weeks in duration. This class will build on fundamentals taught during the Introduction to Nose Work. We will be introducing the search of vehicles and exterior areas. Class is taught on primary (food); not odor.
Currently, I am not offering any new classes. Fill out the form with your information and I will put you on a waiting list.
NOSE WORK DROP IN
After completing Introduction to K9 Nose Work and Introduction to Odor, the Canine Team is ready to take on new challenges.
Drop In Nose Work classes are designed to introduce new odor and search problems. Drop In classes will also prepare you for your competitions by reviewing rules, discussing various handling techniques and working on what is best for your team.
CONTAINERS: BROKEN DOWN
No matter how long your and your canine teammate have been doing Nose Work and regardless of whether it has been for fun or for sport competition, the foundation skills with Nose Work are the same. Those foundation skills are:
Independence
Drive
Confidence
Autonomous Problem Solving
Importance of Odor (if your canine teammate is on odor)
With the lack of trials right now, I am challenging everyone to go back to the basics and build and reinforce that foundation again.
